There are many causes of osteoporosis, yet poor nutrition, extremes in body weight and estrogen levels are considered important contributors. The hormonal and dietary mechanisms regulating bone during caloric restriction is the primary focus of this proposal. We anticipate that these studies will contribute to future guidelines for healthy weight loss and lifestyle to provide new recommendations to prevent osteoporosis.
