Abstract

Catemeric hydrogen bonding in a bicyclic sesquiterpenoid keto acid was investigated. Crystallographic studies were performed, to explore the molecular characteristics, that control the hydrogen bonding patterns of keto carboxylic acids. Each species aggregated separately as a carboxyl-to-ketone hydrogen-bonding catemer, and produced two crystallographically independent single-strand hydrogen-bonding helices.
