Molecular characteristics controlling the hydrogen bonding patterns of keto-carboxylic acids were studied. Subtypes of catemers were categorized by describing the relationship of adjacent molecules in the chains as homochiral and heterochiral (glide). X-ray structures of steroidal keto acids displayed that the catemeric hydrogen bondings were transitional.
