Abstract

Hardy and Carlo have written an excellent article providing one outline of moral identity and its development. The goal of my commentary is to broaden the connotations of moral identity put forth by Hardy and Carlo [see Hart, in press]. My goal is to guard against the reduction of the moral identity construct to a single individual differences variable derived from a single theoretical perspective. Moral identity conceived broadly can integrate the insights of a variety of disciplines concerning the origins and development of moral life.
