Abstract
This article addresses the unique signs that can be noted during the physical assessment of the adult with a gastrointestinal problem. Selected gastrointestinal diseases illustrate the many symptoms the patient may display. These diseases require prompt nursing interventions in order to prevent serious complications. The role of the nurse in assessment of these problems is enhanced by the additional observations that are described in the article.
