Abstract
Adolescents who are hospitalized because of drug ingestion are often grouped into one diagnostic category. This global classification fails to consider several motivation differences that contribute to important distinctions among "drug ingesters." A system of diagnostic categorization is presented that offers a conceptual framework for more effective therapeutic intervention.
