Abstract

The authors designed a new device for sampling powder from mixers or drums. This core sampler can be used to extract an undisturbed column of powder from a vessel. The column can then be sectioned into a large number of representative samples of controlled size. The device can resolve the interfacial layer with an axial resolution of <1 cm. These advantages over conventional powder samplers and thieves make the core-sampling technique an effective approach for determining content uniformity within a vessel of powder.
