Attraction of minute particles to invariant regions of volume preserving flows by transients

Abstract

A new effect that causes transiently forced tracers to become focused on invariant islands in volume preserving flows independent of tracer particle size or mass was identified. It was observed that the mechanism for this effect causes tracers to become localized around invariant regions of fluid flows, only during transient forcing.
