Abstract
This paper reports an experimental and numerical study of heat conduction in the barrel of a custom extruder that was heated and cooled by liquid jackets. The axial temperature distribution in the barrel was measured with thermocouples under a variety of operating conditions. The heat transfer coefficients on the jacket side of the barrel, as well as on the inside surface of the barrel were determined from the thermocouple data and numerical models of the barrel.
