Abstract
A closed-loop method for frequency offset estimation and compensation in digital receivers is introduced. The proposed method is best suited for frequency offset compensation of a subclass of binary CPM with h = 1/2 that includes modulation schemes with non-negative frequency pulses. For considered modulation schemes the modulation-induced self-noise term is absent from the estimate variance. The estimator is non-data and non-timing aided and its estimation range is half the bit rate (±R/2). With larger frequency offsets it introduces a frequency ambiguity of R that is of no relevance to the performance of a differential detection based receiver.
