N2 - In order to maximize the effectiveness of their interactions with gay males, social workers must assess and address the impacts of stigmatization on their clients' mental health. Furthermore, they need to find ways to reduce stigmatization in their clients' environments. Using three case studies, the author will demonstrate how to help gay men overcome their gender-related reluctance to discuss the emotional impacts of stigmatization, and how to use cognitive therapy to diminish these impacts. The author will also illustrate environmental interventions designed to reduce anti-gay harassment in family and school settings.
