Abstract

The rotational model is applied in the 1f-2p shell to study the relative importance of spin and orbit to the M1 rates of low lying collective 1+ states. The correct 1+ intrinsic state is obtained by demanding orthogonality with respect to the spurious intrinsic state. The rotational model gives much larger rates than the single j shell model.
