Abstract

This chapter provides an overview and elaboration of the chapters in this section on community violence. The overview is divided into six sections: what is community violence, what are the available data used to study community violence, how is community violence affected by sociodemographic characteristics and dynamics, what are the risk and protective factors associated with different types of community iolence, and what are the promising and evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies and programs that are available for different types of community violence.
