An ionic-4f-configuration based theory for configurational crossover in Eu systems is presented. A formalism for evaluating the full thermodynamics of the model including specific description of the valence variation and magnetic susceptibility is discussed. Intersite valence fluctuation and magnetic exchange interactions can be treated in a phenomenological mean field way. This yields predictions for the potential valence transition and magnetic ordering transition portions of the Eu-configurational-crossover phase diagram.
