Abstract
The history, development, and future trajectory of the field of consumer behavior are discussed. The field's theoretical grounding in the basic disciplines of economics and psychology is reviewed, and a brief history of the field's major conceptual foci over time is provided. Also addressed are the areas of research generating increased attention among the current generation of consumer scholars.
