Abstract
We apply multivariable modal control techniques to control the elastic motion of lightweight multibody structures. The elastic control action is implemented by means of segmented piezoelectric film actuators. We show that, by using piezoelectric actuators, one does not excite any rigid body motion or the elastic motion of a subsequent body This makes it possible to decentralize the control law, hence making it much simpler to design and implement.
