Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study conducted for the State of New Jersey to identify the functions of coastal dunes and to identify and map dune dimensions. A methodology for identifying the degree of protection afforded by existing dunes was developed, as well as a process for delineating a Dune Management District along the New Jersey shoreline. A dune management model is developed which includes both a method for establishing the boundaries of the district and the identification of practices which should be encouraged within the district.
