Abstract

We have been charged with presenting a developmental perspective on collaborative learning. A developmental scientist assumes that to understand human thought and behavior, it’s necessary to understand its origins and history within the life-course of the individual. is view directs us to look for the roots of collaboration in infancy and to expect that it will be radically transformed over the course of childhood, and beyond. Developmental outcomes are in uenced by diverse interacting factors from the immediate context, such as the family and caregivers, as well as the larger cultural setting. A developmental perspective also suggests that characteristics of the child must be considered. Children change as a result of the reactions they provoke from other people in the environment (see Samero, 2009).
