Abstract

Although many of the assumptions inherent in the derivation of equations such as the Stokes-Einstein equation are wrong, it is generally believed that experimental diffusion data can be correlated such that diffusivity is inversely proportional to bulk viscosity. This paper presents data and a theoretical analysis that suggest a 'local' viscosity must be used to describe the diffusion process.
