Effect of composition on electrical properties of (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 relaxor ferroelectric materials

Abstract

The effects of varying the composition of (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3MINxPbTiO3 (PMN-PT) on electromechanical properties are reported. Emphasis was placed on compositions in the region of the morphotropic phase boundary (x approx. 0.30-0.35). The piezoelectric charge coefficient (d33) increased as PT level increased, reaching a maximum value of 650 pC/N at 0.655PMN-0.345PT. The highest room temperature dielectric constant of 5090 was obtained at this same composition. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties for compositions ranging from x=0.29-0.36 are reported.
