Abstract

Changes in coronary flow directly affect the performance of the left ventricle. Therefore, factors that affect coronary flow will also influence the function of the left ventricle. While many aspects of arterio-ventricular interaction have been studied, the contribution of coronary flow and its sensitivity to the arterial system has received relatively little attention. We investigate the relationship between the arterial system load and coronary circulation with the aid of a closed-loop model of the circulation. Altering the arterial system parameters leads to the prediction that coronary perfusion is highly sensitive to the arterial load.
