Abstract
Students, professionals, employers, indeed, every citizen should care deeply about that state of our schools. Eli Bower referred to schools as society’s “humanizing” agents, the way in which the older generation showed youth the path to follow into adulthood [2]. But this role seems to be increasingly taken up by mass media and mass culture, in part because schools have narrowed their focus on children’s academic skills and parents are distracted by economic and personal agendas [3]. Doctrinaire approaches have replaced a genuine focus on the courageous leadership needed for success in school and life [1].
