Abstract

(One Earth 4, 680–693, May 21, 2021) In the originally published version of this article, the estimated figure for eight baleen whale species’ populations (0.0089 Gt) in Figure 2 was unfortunately incorrect because it was calculated with the number of individuals instead of the biomass from the referenced article. The correct number is 0.00135 Gt, which appears correctly below and in the online version of the article. Additionally, the phrase “carbon in the living biomass of eight baleen whale species … in 2001 was estimated to be similar in scale” on page 683 has been corrected to read, “carbon in the living biomass of eight baleen whale species … in 2001 was estimated to be less than one-sixth of this mass.” The authors apologize for the oversight and any confusion it may have caused.
