Abstract

A method of parameter estimation is presented in which the parameters of interest are the carrier frequency, modulation type, and bit rate of a modulated signal. The method uses digital signal processing techniques to obtain the phase derivative from the analytic signal. The phase derivative is then used to find the desired features. The presence of amplitude modulation is determined by the envelope of the analytic signal. This method is particularly well suited for real-time applications. It can be applied to a short time data record. It also requires less computational overhead than the statistical approach.
