Abstract
Analytical and numerical methods were used to investigate the spatial decay properties of Wannier functions and related quantities. The decay was found to be power law times an exponential with a power law exponent that is universal for each kind of quantity. However, the consequences for linear scaling calculations and localized real space representations of electron structure remain to be fully explored.
