Free surface waves in wall-bounded granular flows

Abstract

New wave patterns resulting from vortex development near boundaries for both accelerating and steady dense flows, where velocity gradients exist and sustained frictional contacts are expected, were shown. Vorticity was measured for one of the two observed wave types.
