There are many physical medicine and orthopedic interventions and assistive technologies that can help maintain musculoskeletal integrity and quality of life and prolong survival of Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients without resorting to hospitalization or tracheostomy. This paper gives an account of the key psychiatric orthopedic and respiratory contributions made throughout the years.
