Abstract
The key roles played by the people in the debates about affirmative action to comment on the rulings of the University of Michigan are presented. The rulings support the important notion that each college should be free to establish its own educational mission. Selective colleges and universities with large admissions staffs continue to provide holistic assessments of each candidate to diversify their student bodies.
