Abstract

The purpose of this book is to shine light on the undergraduate programs in public affairs and administration. In many schools with Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs and other graduate-level programs in public affairs, undergraduate programs are not always at the forefront of the school and the department's minds. However, many undergraduate programs are seeing increased enrollments while MPA programs are holding steady or in some cases seeing enrollment decline. This book will highlight the unique challenges and opportunities for undergraduate programs in public affairs and administration. This chapter will be an introduction that frames the book and discusses the importance of undergraduate education in public affairs. The purpose and motivation for such a book are also explored.
