N1 - Funding Information: Previous workshops and projects focused on invasive species include the Invasive Species Databases Workshop held in 1998. Convened on behalf of the Departments of the Interior; Agriculture, and Commerce in collaboration with the Charles Valentine Riley Memorial Foundation, this workshop broughttogether invasive species database managers to identify gaps in coverage and discuss strategies to link databases. Another important meeting entitled "Meeting the Invasive Species Challenge" was convened by the National Invasive Species Council and produced a management plan for invasive species in 2001. Members of this council included Secretaries ofInterior; State, Treasury, Agriculture, Transportation, Health and Human Services, Commerce, Defense, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S.Agency for International Development. One of the highly recommended goals of this workshop was to produce an Invasive Species Compendium for North America. Consequently, the USDA and CAB International have started a project to produce an Invasive Species Compendium within the next few years. Also, an issue paper; "Invasive Plant Species;' produced in 2000 by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) offered several recommendations for mitigating the effects of these pests. A selection of Web sites concerning invasive species include: www.invasivespecies.gov-gateway to Federal programs and is the Web site for the National Invasive Species Council; www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov-this is the National Agricultural Li-brary's National Invasive Species Information Center Web site; www.invasive.org-information and images of invasive and exotic species supported by the University of Georgia's Bugwood Net-work, the USDA Forest Service, and the USDA-APHIS/PPQ; www.ars.usda.gov-research efforts on invasives; www.ipmcenters.org-fact sheets, etc.
