Abstract

The major force behind today's IR fiber development is the urgent need for an IR fiber for medical laser applications. In general, it is desirable to have an appropriate fiber for each type of laser used in medicine and surgery. In this article, the author discusses the fibers that can be used as delivery systems for IR lasers, and also gives some examples of IR fiber endoscopes that have been fabricated for use with CO//2 lasers.
