Abstract
Examination was made of the accuracy of numerical computations of the three dimensional sharp fin flow field using the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The basic mode is a comparison of computed flows with a set of experiments at Mach 3 for two different Reynolds numbers. Detailed comparison was performed with experimental data and separate computational results of two researchers for the sharp fin at an angle of 10 DEGREE to examine the accuracy of two different turbulence models. The computed pitot pressure profiles using these models were observed to be very similar. The computed yaw angle profiles are sensitive to the turbulence model. Neither computation predicts the observed overshoot in yaw angle. (A.J.)
