Monte Carlo simulations of liquid flow patterns in trickle-beds

Abstract

We propose a non-deterministic model, based on percolation theory concepts, capable of accurately describing liquid flow patterns in trickle-beds and packed columns. Experimental data on the liquid flow distribution and the maldistribution factor are found to be in excellent agreement with the model results. The effects of the bed permeability on the liquid radial flow profiles are studied. As the bed permeability increases, the liquid radial flow profiles become more and more uniform.
