Abstract

The response of muscle and bone to a bioactive glass (BG) used as metal coating of orthopedic prosthesis is investigated in young adult rabbits. BG-coated cylinders were implanted in the Vastus Lateralis muscle of the thigh and the distal femural canal section of the bone. Results show that BG elicits a favorable response in both the muscles and the bone.
