title = "Novel constant current iontophoretic delivery of Metoprolol in spontaneously hypertensive rabbits",
abstract = "A constant current pulsed DC iontophoretic drug delivery system has been developed and experimentally verified using the beta blocking agent Metoprolol. Past investigations of iontophoretically delivered Metoprolol did not find any significant change in cardiovascular parameters. A high-frequency constant current pulse was used to deliver Metoprolol transdermally to an established acute hypertensive animal model. The constant current pulsed DC mode iontophoretic delivery of Metoprolol successfully reduced both mean arterial pressure and pulse pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rabbits. The success of this iontophoretic procedure has been attributed to the characteristics of the applied pulse.",
