Novel technique to determine spark jet efficiency

Abstract

A novel method for determining the electromechanical efficiency is proposed based upon comparison of predictions of a theoretical model and experimental measurements. A prototype pendulum apparatus and SparkJet actuator are constructed to measure the impulse response of a single capacitive discharge. The pendulum apparatus consists of a wooden pendulum, a low-friction pivot assembly, a low-torque electrical coupling, and a SparkJet actuator. The pendulum and pivot assembly are mounted in a rigid wooden stand shielded from room air drafts by transparent plastic panels.
