The non-isothermal free surface flow at the exit of an optical fiber coating die is considered in this study, and the meniscus generated due to the moving surface is investigated numerically. The axial velocity and the viscosity are both lumped radially for simplification, and the force balance equation at each cross sectional area is used to correct the intermediate profiles. The fiber speed, a change in the die exit diameter, and thermal operating conditions are found to characterize the meniscus. The effect of a change in the inlet pressure on the meniscus becomes negligible as the speed increases.
