Abstract

This paper introduces a new spread-spectrum multiple access scheme based on Multicarrier Multilevel Frequency Shift Keying (MC-MFSK). This new approach shares some of the advantages of both Frequency-Hopping (FH) and Direct-Sequence (DS) spread-spectrum systems, while overcoming some of their disadvantages. The MC-MFSK scheme transmits a symbol in parallel over multiple subchannels using OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). MC-MFSK has the desirable properties of frequency diversity, near-far resistance, and multipath resolvability. Arguably, this not only make MC-MFSK a simple yet competitive spread-spectrum technology but also make it a strong candidate for future high-speed wireless systems.
