Abstract

A research into plastic/composite crossties is being conducted. The goals are to develop a specification that defines mechanical property target and performance requirements based on the dimensions and physical and mechanical properties of a conventional wood crosstie; fabricate prototype plastic/composite ties that conform to the details of the specification in item 1; conduct laboratory test to confirm the properties of the plastic/composite tie; and install the plastic/composite tie in track and monitor their performance. The details of this research are presented and discussed.
