Abstract

Persistence is the property, for positive systems, that solutions starting in the interior of the positive orthant do not approach its boundary. This paper provides checkable necessary as well as sufficient conditions for persistence in reaction networks, using concepts from Petri net theory, and verifies these conditions on an example which arise in biochemistry.
