Abstract

The geminiviruses, a newly discovered group of plant viruses, have circular, single-stranded DNA as their genome. The nucleocapsids are isometric units bonded together in pairs. Geminiviruses are among the smallest autonomously-replicating viruses known. For this and other reasons, the geminiviruses are of considerable fundamental interest in studies of plant molecular genetics and the molecular basis of plant disease.
