Abstract
Simple equations to predict average and maximum crack widths for ferrocement beams reinforced with wire meshes with rectangular openings are presented. The equations are based on the basic principles of mechanics and experimental observations. The crack width is expressed as a function of crack spacing and projected average strain in the extreme tension face of the beam. The apparent average strain at the extreme tension face is calculated using the effective moment of inertia of the cracked region of the beam.
