Abstract
The use of focused ultrasound for the treatment of superficial venous disorders is discussed. At a small focal point the vein wall is heated to damaging temperatures. This should in turn induce venous clotting and ultimate venous adsorption. Numerous in vitro experiments were carried out to determine the necessary parameters to cause focal burns, followed by clinical studies.
