PREPARATION AND PIEZOELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF FIRED 0-3 COMPOSITES.

Abstract

A method for preparing composites with 0-3 connectivity with more than 70 vol% filler particles is presented. Conventional and corona discharge poling techniques have been used to pole the composites. PZT-polymer composites prepared by this method (fired composites) exhibited five times larger d//hg//h figure of merit compared to those prepared by the conventional method. In fired PbTiO//3-polymer composites, almost-saturation poling was achieved and the d//hg//h figure of merit was 1750 multiplied by 10**-**1**5 m**2N**-**1. A resonance technique was used to determine the piezoelectric coupling factors corresponding to different modes of vibration. The technique is useful for analyzing the dynamic performance of single-mode low mechanical Q transducers.
