Abstract
In this paper, we consider a special class of linear systems having block diagonally dominant system matrix and with the control input influencing only one of the subsystems. The optimal reduced-order controllers are designed through the recursive reduced-order parallel algorithm, which converges quickly to the required optimal solution. Many real world systems, such as power systems, chemical reactors, flexible space structures and, in general, systems with only a few actuators, possess the control structure studied in this paper. The proposed method is successfully applied to the controller design of two real systems.
