Abstract

We discuss L=0 vs L=2 couplings, symmetries of the pairing interaction for neutrons and protons, and the Jmax interaction. We show that certain schematic interactions yield exponentially decreasing transition strengths. It is a pleasure to be able to contribute to proceedings honoring this milestone of Franco Iachello's career. We will start with what may be regarded as early elementary precursors to his seminal papers with Akito Arima and others [1,2] on the interaction boson approximation -IBA and IBM. Then, as a change of pace we will discuss most recent work where we focus on matrix models of strength distributions for which there are many problems that are not yet understood.
