Abstract

A simple simulation model for membranes that enables the investigation of length scales currently inaccessible to atomistic and most coarse-grained models is presented. This introduction provides a brief survey of existing coarse-grained particle-based models to place a perspective. As such, several nonparticle based models of membranes are studied, including tethered solid membranes, tethered fluid membranes, and continuous elastic sheets.
