Abstract

The distribution of the diatoms in the midsummer diatom assemblages of a small coastal stream in Kachemak Bay, Alaska, were investigated. The diatoms and the nature of the diatom assemblages found in a series of samples taken at various locations in the stream were indicative of the saline gradient and fluctuations in salinity that characterize this habitat.
