Abstract
High resolution inelastic neutron scattering was used to determine the magnetic excitations of the square-lattice spin antiferromagnet and high-Tc parent compound La2CuO4. Strong hybridization pathing around the Cu4O4 account for the cyclic or ring exchange providing an explanation for the measured dispersion relation. It was concluded that the magnetic interactions in the cuprates can be described by a one-band Hubbard model and the cyclic exchange interactions or the related electronic currents are important for superconductivity in the doped cuprates.
