Synthetic arterial graft design on the influence of pulse wave propagation within the aorta

Abstract

Computer modeling of the aorta was performed to investigate the influence on pulse wave morphology of an end-to-end anastomosis of different synthetic graft materials and profiles. Geometric and compliance mismatch of the synthetic graft sections to that of the aorta resulted in pulse waveform alterations. Results show tapered graft is superior over uniform graft in shaping pulse wave transmission.
